World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
A candle-light vigil was held at the Martyr’s Column in Trivandrum, organized by the Motor Vehicles
Department in collaboration with NRC-NCD and ADIC-India on 15 th November, 2025. Several
distinguished dignitaries lit their candles in remembrance of the road traffic victims including Sri. K. B.
Ganesh Kumar, Hon. Minister for Transport, who inaugurated the ceremony, Mr. Gokul Ratnakar, former
Kerala DGP Mr. Jacob Punnoose IPS, Dr. V. P. Suhaib Moulavi, Bishop Mathews Mor Silvanus, Mr.
Nagaraju Chakilam IPS (Transport Commissioner), Mr. Johnson J. Edayaranmula (Executive Director,
NRC-NCD), and Mr. Tojo M. Thomas (Regional Transport Officer, Trivandrum) also participated in the
remembrance. The ceremony included brief yet meaningful addresses by the dignitaries, focusing on the
pressing need for prevention, collective responsibility, and continuous awareness efforts. During the
event, it was also announced that January 2026 would be observed as Road Safety Month in Kerala. The
event created an impactful atmosphere of remembrance, while also reinforcing the urgency of road safety
initiatives across the state. It strengthened collaboration among government departments, civil society,
and community leaders, and helped reaffirm Kerala’s commitment to sustained efforts toward reducing
road traffic injuries and fatalities.
